The White Horse Inn Swavesey

Our story · Swavesey

An old village inn. A taste of Nepal.

The White Horse Inn has long been part of life on Market Street. Its next chapter with Lapen Inns brings together a village pub, Nepalese cooking, familiar favourites and room for conversation.

1 Market Street

A building with its own story

The White Horse Inn is a Grade II-listed building on Market Street. Historic England records eighteenth-century origins, followed by alterations in the nineteenth century. Its brick frontage and tiled roof belong to the village's historic streetscape.

That history gives the next chapter a setting to respect. We want the White Horse to feel like a village local: a place for familiar faces, good food and conversations that have time to unfold.

The village around us

Market Street, shaped by the fen edge

Swavesey's history reaches beyond the pub's doorstep.

Swavesey sits on the edge of the Great Ouse fen landscape. The village's design guide traces a river port and market established in the thirteenth century at what is now Market Street. The docks were filled in during the nineteenth century, creating the open space that forms part of the village today.

The inn is part of that wider story of village life. Looking around Market Street, or exploring the lakes and paths beyond Swavesey, gives a sense of the place around our village local.

The Lapen Inns family

A local worth returning to

Our Lapen Inns approach brings together Nepalese cooking, familiar pub favourites and a warm welcome for Swavesey. Momo, curries and grills sit alongside fish and chips and burgers, giving everyone at the table room to choose.

The village's independent Save The White Horse campaign is also part of the pub's community story. Its independent work reflects the value people place on keeping a village meeting place.

The campaign is separate from Lapen Inns. You can read its perspective alongside the official record of the building.
